The same week that House Republicans look to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress, Republicans are looking to target another official. Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) has introduced a resolution to hold Mark F. Pomerantz in contempt. Pomerantz is a former Trump prosecutor.

Rep. Gaetz’s resolution would direct the Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives to summon Pomerantz after failing to comply with a congressional subpoena.

In early 2023, Pomerantz penned a book recounting his experience in joining the New York County District Attorney’s Office in February 2021. This is when he was working on the investigation of President Donald Trump (R).

On April 6, 2023, Pomerantz was subpoenaed by the House of Representatives Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. However, after legal challenges to the subpoena that GOP lawmakers argue were “frivolous,” Pomerantz appeared under oath for a congressional deposition a month later after being told by a federal that “no one is above the law.”

During the deposition, Pomerantz is accused of not complying “by incorrectly asserting his Fifth Amendment right when asked questions about information he referenced in his book” according to a press release from Gaetz’s office.

In a statement, Gaetz further explains the resolution, saying that “through his lack of testimony, Mark Pomerantz has undoubtedly undermined the legitimacy of this witch hunt indictment against President Donald Trump.”

Gaetz adds that “Mr. Pomerantz engaged in misconduct in his targeting of President Trump, and his refusal to answer simple questions should not go unpunished.”

“He should he held in contempt of Congress and be compelled to answer the questions regarding the weaponization of the Manhattan DA’s office,” Gaetz explained, noting that “if he fails to comply with the congressional subpoena, then the Sergeant at Arms of the house of Representatives must summon him by force."
