Wasserman Schultz Endorses Mucarsel-Powell In Pivotal Senate Race

Share

Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) has officially endorsed Senate candidate and former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL) in her U.S. Senate against incumbent Senator Rick Scott (R-FL).

In a post, Rep. Wasserman Schultz said that former Rep. Mucarsel-Powell is the “champion Floridians need” in the upper chamber.

“Fighting to restore democracy in Venezuela, and protect and expand it at home, is what Debbie and I did in Congress. So I know she’s the champion Floridians need in the Senate. Proud to join her and Venezuelan American leaders today to lay out our plans to do it,” said Rep. Wasserman Schultz.

At a campaign event, Rep. Mucarsel-Powell was “proud” to be joined by the Florida congresswoman.

“So many Floridians understand how important it is to defend democracy in Venezuela. Today I was proud to be joined by Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Venezuelan community leaders in Pembroke Pines for a conversation about how the U.S. can defend democracy, in Venezuela and at home,” said Mucarsel-Powell.

According to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the Senate hopeful showcases over $1.7 million in total campaign fundraising receipts, and over $1.5 million in contributions. $1.4 million comes from individual donations.

The incumbent Sen. Scott, however, boasts over $14 million in total receipts and over $4.5 million in individual donations.

Defeating Sen. Scott could be a tough task for Mucarsel-Powell, but historically almost every challenger faces an uphill battle financially.

After it was announced that the Colorado Supreme Court barred former President Donald Trump (R) from running in the state primary, Mucarsel-Powell called Trump “anti-democratic” and attacked Scott for continuing to endorse him.

“When you break the law and attack democracy, it has consequences. Even if you’re a former President. Trump is anti-democratic and has been ruled ineligible for office yet Rick Scott STILL proudly endorses him. There's no place on the ballot for someone who is anti-democracy,” said Mucarsel-Powell.

Back in August, The Floridian Publisher Javier Manjarres met with Scott athe 2024 Republican presidential debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to discuss his upcoming reelection campaign as well as his new challenger from Rep. Mucarsel-Powell.

Scott questioned Manjarres'  depictions that Powell was a centrist.

“Centrist? That was only for the campaign. Not when [she] voted. She voted 100% with Nancy Pelosi. So, that story, that’s just for the campaign,” said Scott.

When announcing her candidacy, Mucarsel-Powell said, "I'm not afraid to take on anyone who doesn't put Florida first. That means you, Rick Scott, that's why I'm running for the U.S. Senate.”

The general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
