House Republicans have two demands: aid to Israel without any other strings attached and a secure southern border, putting them at odds with the Democrat-controlled Senate under Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) blasted the Majority Leader in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Mornings with Maria, saying "he does not support Israel" and "does not care about our border."
Sen. Scott called the ongoing border crisis a "clear and present danger to every American," a danger confirmed during a recent hearing with FBI Director Christopher Wray, who said the border was a possible target in a terror attack. Despite this, President Biden and Congressional Democrats refuse to secure the border unless Ukraine funding is tied to it, with Sen. Schumer calling Republican proposals for border security "extreme."
Host Maria Bartiromo pointed out the irony of Sen. Schumer, who represents New York, ignoring what his constituents in New York City are saying about the border crisis, as they are flooded with migrants straining the city's resources. NYC Mayor Eric Adams (D) famously said in September that illegal immigration "will destroy New York City."
Sen. Scott agreed, asking who wants to visit the Big Apple "and deal with the crime, the homelessness, the illegal immigrants?" Moreover, he further lambasted Schumer for repeatedly blocking the House's standalone Israel aid package, which offset $14 billion intended for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for the beleaguered Jewish State.
"We have done unanimous consent twice to get the aid to Israel that the House passed, and Chuck Schumer has voted against it and blocked it every time. So number one, he does not support Israel. Number two, he does not care about our border," Scott concluded.
In November, Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) similarly demanded Schumer "do his job" on Israel and the border, saying the House already "did its job" and that "Chuck Schumer needs to figure out what the hell's going on in the world and do his job."
More recently, Representative Brian Mast (R-FL) said Senate Democrats are refusing to support the House's Israel bill out of a "soft antisemitism" and need to retain the pro-Palestine portion of their base.
