10 Days

The Iowa Caucus is ten days away and Florida Gov Ron DeSantis continues to swing for the fences against his top two presidential primary opponents—former President Donald Trump and Ambassador Nikki Haley.

DeSantis is locked with Haley for second place behind President Trump, and during a recent CNN town hall event, the popular governor from Florida questioned Trump’s campaign strategy in Iowa, and blistered Haley as being a “phony.”

DeSantis has invested the most of all 2024 GOP presidential candidates and has the most to lose, and it shows.

Trump has been campaigning in Iowa of late, but not in the way Haley, DeSantis, and Ramaswamy have.

DeSantis has been all over the place and that could pay huge dividends for him with Iowans, and could pull an upset in Iowa.

Donald Trump is running on his issues, Nikki Haley is running for her donor’s issues,” said DeSantis.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) continues to unload on Ambassador Nikki Haley (R). During a joint interview with the Des Moines Register and NBC News, Governor DeSantis discounted Ambassador Haley’s presidential candidacy because she’s “phony.”

With the Iowa caucus looming nearer and nearer, the presidential candidates are making their final pitches to Iowans. President Donald Trump (R) is leading the pack of candidates by a wide margin, and this has pitted Governor DeSantis and Ambassador Haley for the second spot.

During the joint interview, Governor DeSantis commented on Ambassador Haley’s campaign, and when he was asked if it would be beneficial for him and Ambassador Haley to team up in a ticket to defeat President Trump, Governor DeSantis immediately turned the idea down.

“I don’t think that that would be something that would be viable,” he said.

Calling her “phony” and someone who “doesn’t have a core set of convictions,” Governor DeSantis further assessed that Ambassador Haley is “trying to be relatable.”

Echoing his remarks earlier this week that she was not ready for “prime time,” Governor DeSantis expressed that “she’s not good offscript,” citing what happened “in New Hampshire a week ago.”  The incident he was referring to saw Ambassador Haley being asked to explain the reason behind the Civil War and not mentioning slavery. This quickly received blowback, and she rescinded her comments.

Ambassador Haley now finds herself in more controversy after saying in New Hampshire that “Iowa starts it, but New Hampshire corrects it.”

During an interview with Dana Loesch, Governor DeSantis slammed Ambassador Haley’s comments, saying that “it was very disrespectful to Iowa voters.” He went on to explain that she made the comment because she doesn’t have much support in the state.

Sharing a segment of the interview on social media, the Florida Governor expressed that Ambassador Haley “thinks she is above hardworking Iowans.”

For several months, Houthi rebels from Yemen have been attacking international shipping in the Red Sea. A coalition of the United States, the United Kingdom, and other countries recently warned the group to cease their attacks or be punished. Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) did not express confidence in the warning in a recent appearance on Fox and Friends First, especially as the Houthis are part of a larger plan by America's adversaries to disrupt the West.

Rep. Mills pointed out that the Biden Administration had removed the Houthis from the foreign terrorist organization (FTO) list, added by President Trump.

Additionally, he compared the situation to the aftermath of the Maersk Alabama hijacking in 2009 (the subject of the 2012 film Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks).

"You saw where they were actually starting to patrol the internationally recommended transit corridor to ensure that we had commercial lanes open," said Rep. Mills, adding that three Houthi boats were sunk on New Year's Eve by American Naval forces, warning the crisis could escalate.

Moreover, Mills continued, "I want to paint a broader picture for the American people, which the incident that is occurring with this attempt to block commerce or disrupt commerce is part of the bigger geopolitical plan by the China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea alignment."

On top of disrupting trade in the Middle East, Mills pointed out China's investments in Panama as a means of influencing trade in the Western Hemisphere, "using economic coercion to try and cut off and increase trade tariffs on the Panama Canal."

In June, Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) similarly warned of investments along the Panama Canal by the Chinese, as the Republic becomes dangerously friendly to China, up to no longer recognizing Taiwan as a country.

Mills has not minced words in blasting the Biden Administration's foreign policy, recently saying that "Obama/Biden’s own Secretary of Defense stated that Joe Biden has been wrong on EVERY foreign policy issue," and that the President "has emboldened our adversaries through weakness, and America’s position on the work stage is taking a hit. We’ve got to bring back Trump's foreign policies and a peace through strength mindset."

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has released a new advertisement, dubbing Ambassador Nikki Haley (R)“the new John Kerry.” The advertisement shows footage of Ambassador Haley transmitting conflicting messaging regarding President Donald Trump (R).

Governor DeSantis and Ambassador Haley are both trailing President Trump in Republican polling. However, both are also the only Republicans that will take the stage and debate on January 10th in the final Republican primary debate before the Iowa caucus.

Both have ramped up their criticism against each other, but a new advertisement from the DeSantis campaign paints the former governor of South Carolina as a “flip flopper.” The comment came from a nine-year-old who also called Ambassador Haley “the new John Kerry” after her recent Civil War flub. Governor DeSantis also commented on the controversy, suggesting that she isn’t “ready for prime time.”

In the advertisement, footage of Ambassador Haley admitting that she “would not run if President Trump ran” is shown contrasted with her campaign advertisement, announcing her presidential candidacy.

The advertisement also shows footage of Ambassador Haley commenting that she considers President Trump “a friend” contrasted with a statement wherein she criticizes President Trump and says that he has no future in the Republican party.

As reported by POLITICO, Ambassador Haley expressed “I don’t think he’s going to be in the picture. I don’t think he can. He’s fallen so far. We need to acknowledge he let us down. He went down a path he shouldn’t have, and we shouldn’t have followed him.”

The rivalry between President Trump and Ambassador Haley has been clear with President Trump dubbing her “bird brain.” In recent weeks, Ambassador Haley has surged in the polls, gaining significant conservative endorsements while sparring with Governor DeSantis over second place in the polls.

In sharing the advertisement, the DeSantis campaign captioned the video with “this is what it looks like to have no core convictions.”

Earlier this week, Governor DeSantis accused Ambassador Haley of “running on her donors’ issues”instead of running to address the needs of Americans.

The beginning of 2024 comes with a lot of political baggage. The Iowa caucus is looming closer, and Americans have officially entered the election year. Before that however comes January 6th. Florida Rep. Anna V. Eskamani (D) is now calling an alleged celebration of January 6th a “joke,” questioning why Republicans would celebrate such a thing.

While Republicans question the legitimacy of the insurrection and Democrats argue that President Donald Trump (R) should not be allowed to run because of it, the date has forever changed the political landscape.

In response, Rep. Eskamani took to social media to share a text message allegedly sent the Republican Party of Osceola County, celebrating the “3rd Anniversary of Jan 6.”

The event, taking place at WestgateResorts, will host Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R), called “a prominent MAGA leader” who is also “a staunch advocate for American priorities over foreign interests and special lobbying.”

Responding to the event, Rep. Eskamani questions why Republicans would celebrate January 6th while also inviting Rep. Greene to speak at the event.

“Just another day in Florida where the local Republican Party in Osceola County is hosting an ‘anniversary’ event to mark January 6th and Marjorie Taylor Green is the ‘special’ guest,” Eskamani wrote on social media, adding that she “was really hoping this was a joke.” Rep. Eskamani shared a photo of the event information, showing that tickets range between $45 and $1,000.

Attendees will allegedly receive a copy of Rep. Green’s book called “MTG,” and other speakers are expected to be announced soon.

President Trump has faced legal pushback, threatening his name being pulled from ballots across the country. The state of Maine has already announced that his name will not appear on the ballot, and though other states have flirted with the possibility of pulling his name, Maine remains the only state to move forward with the decision. Colorado had previously pulled his name before announcing that he would be reinstated.

Miami- The Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee, which is lead by Rep. Alex Rizzo, a staunch supporter of Gov. Ron DeSantis,  held a 2024 presidential preference straw poll during the group’s planned monthly meeting, and members of the committee resoundingly voted in favor of former President Donald Trump over Governor Ron DeSantis.

The vote tally was small, but telling.

Of the 65 votes submitted, President Trump received 53, DeSantis 5 votes, Nikki Haley 3 votes, and Vivek Ramaswamy 1.

Gov. DeSantis has used his 2022 midterm reelection results on the presidential campaign trail, pitching his 11-point victory in Miami-Dade as an indicator of the support he enjoys from Republicans in the state’s most populous county.

Republicans like the idea of DeSantis being president one day, but they love the possibility that President Trump could be reelected to a second term

"Florida is Trump country! #MAGA," stated Laura Loomer, a conservative journalist and supporter of Trump.

In a new poll conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University, President Joe Biden is now trailing former President Trump amongst Hispanic and young voters.

According to the poll, Biden’s support amongst Hispanic voters is 34 percent, while Trump is polling at 39 percent. This number is a new low for President Biden who – just four years ago – crushed Trump with the Hispanic vote, winning 65 percent of the group's support.

Hispanic voters aren't the only ones shying away from the current president. Young voters, too, are also separating themselves from the Biden's reelection efforts. While President Biden trounced President Trump with support amongst young voters in the 2020 election, winning over the group by 24 points, the new poll shows that Trump is now in the lead. The poll found that Trump leads Biden among voters under 35 years of age. Trump received 37 percent support, while Biden only received 33 percent.

Biden also saw his lead dwindle when it came to his support amongst black voters. While Biden received 87 percent of the black vote in the 2020 election, according to the poll, he is now sitting at 63 percent.

The good news for President Biden is that many of these voters polled haven’t necessarily switched sides to support Trump. Instead, many of these voters have opted to support third-party candidates. The poll found that one in every five Hispanic and black voters will be supporting a third-party candidate come next November (given it’s a Trump/Biden rematch).

As for the 2024 presidential election, polling still shows a hotly contested race. According to Real Clear Politics, Trump currently has an average lead of 1 percentage point over Biden. With this being said, some polls, such as a recent one conducted by Rasmussen Reports, have Trump up 8 percentage points. On the other hand, a poll recently conducted by Susquehanna, has Biden leading the former president by as much as 7 percentage points.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and Ambassador Nikki Haley (R) will square off in the final Republican primary debate ahead of the Iowa caucus. Before taking the debate stage later this month, Governor DeSantis took part in a town hall, directing political jabs at his opponents while affirming that he will "turn the country around" as president.

President Donald Trump (R) will not be joining Governor DeSantis and Ambassador Haley on the debate stage as he has scheduled a town hall hosted by Fox News at the same time as the debate. However, this isn’t deterring Governor DeSantis from making it clear that President Trump isn't fit to be in the White House again.

“Donald Trump is running on his issues. Nikki Haley is running on her donors’ issues. I’m running to address your issues, your family’s issues, and to turn the country around,” He responded, adding that he sees himself as a “vessel for your hopes, dreams, and aspirations."

For him to do that, Governor DeSantis says that he needs “a congress that’s gonna work with me,” adding that he will do everything in his power to make sure that Republicans get elected. Moreover, the Florida Governor says that “this is a time for putting your money where you mouth is” when it comes to Republicans in office. He lamented that Republicans “haven’t really delivered” when it comes to being fiscally responsible, and he believes that he is the most qualified person that can deliver on that promise.

Governor DeSantis also highlighted other concerns that his presidency would address, which includes “structural reform in Washington, D.C.,” “term limits for members of Congress,” “a Balanced Budget Amendment,” and giving “the president line-item veto.”

In recent weeks, Ambassador Haley’s support has grown in the United States, but President Trump remains the clear front runner as well as polling higher than President Joe Biden (D).

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) began the New Year with an ad for his 2024 reelection campaign, invoking former President Ronald Reagan and saying America must "cowboy up and fight like hell" to reclaim its values.

"We’re losing our country because of Democrats’ radical agenda. Prices and crime are soaring. The border is wide open. Millions of Americans can no longer afford a home. It’s time to cowboy up and turn our country around," Sen. Scott tweeted.

"If Ronald Reagan were here right now, he would say, 'What the hell have you guys done to my great country?" the ad opened, with Sen. Scott then listing off various problems such as the border crisis, inflation, the Ukraine war, the Afghanistan withdrawal, the transgender debate, and student loan forgiveness.

"The game is now rigged against hardworking Americans who still believe in this country, believe in God, and the American values of hard work, patriotism, and self-reliance," Scott continued, adding, "This is not a fight for the faint of heart, it is not a fight for the weak. We are losing our country. It is time to cowboy up and fight like hell to turn this country around. We can do it. Make no mistake, we will do it."

Scott first announced his reelection bid the previous January, after clarifying he was not seeking a Presidential run amidst speculation.

In August, Florida Democrats unified around a challenger, former Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. In an interview with The Floridian, Scott pointed out that the former Congresswoman "voted 100% with Nancy Pelosi" despite her portrayal as a centrist and moderate.

"Centrist? That was only for the campaign. Not when [she] voted. She voted 100% with Nancy Pelosi. So, that story, that’s just for the campaign," Scott told The Floridian.

Early in December, former President Donald Trump, who remains the most popular Republican candidate for the 2024 Presidential Election, endorsed Scott's reelection to the Senate in a praising statement.

"I have known Rick for a long time, as both a businessman and great Governor of FLORIDA, and there are very few like him!" Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that Senator Scott is "strong on the Border, Crime, our Great Military/Vets, our Second Amendment, and the only person who has been willing to take on the very destructive Super RINO, Mitch McConnell."

Two weeks later, Mucarsel-Powell landed an endorsement of her own from Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL).

With the 2024 Iowa Caucuses less than two weeks away, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has kicked his presidential campaign into high gear, traversing the Hawkeye State trying to cram in as many meet and greet events in hopes of upsetting former President Donald Trump, or at the very least, come in a respectable second place. During a town hall interview with Gray TV in Des Moines, Iowa, Gov. DeSantis continued to try to contrast himself with President Trump on issues, particularly with the ongoing illegal immigration crisis along the southern border with Mexico.

As more than 300,000 illegal immigrants came across last month alone, DeSantis reaffirmed his position that he would “declare” the border crisis a “national emergency on day one.”

DeSantis is vowing to deport all those who have crossed over illegally.

I'm going to have the military on the border to stop the invasion cold. But one of the things we have to do is, people come illegally, we've had millions under Biden, I'm going to deport them back to their home country,” said DeSantis.  You have got to do that.”

In contrasting himself to Trump on border security, DeSantis said that under his administration, Mexico would pay for the border security wall by charging Mexican workers employed in the US “fees” on the remittances they send back home.

Border Crisis
Border Crisis

In addition, DeSantis swiped at Trump for not delivering on his promise to deport more illegal aliens than any of his predecessors.

“Donald Trump promised the largest deportations in history. He deported less, believe it or not, than Barack Obama even did. So I'm going to do that. Number two, we are going to build the wall and have Mexico pay for it. How do you do that? Mexico is not just going to give us money. You charge fees on the remittances that workers send overseas. That'll raise billions. We'll build the wall,” added DeSantis. “But most importantly, we're going to hold the Mexican drug cartels accountable. I'm going to categorize them as foreign terrorist organizations. That's going to give us an ability to use deadly military force against them.”

Trump did deport fewer illegal aliens than Obama, but that was because there were significantly fewer attempts by migrants to cross into the U.S. illegally during his first term as president.

Under Trump, both legal and illegal immigration drastically slowed down.

DeSantis first stated that he would use military force against Mexican drug cartels when The Floridian pressed him on the issue at an official executive office event in Miami prior to his run for president.

State Senator Joe Gruters (R-FL) has introduced legislation labeled SB 1168 – relating to forms of identification. While one of the main focuses of the bill is to expand the acceptable forms of ID for voter registration to include “United States passport cards, identification cards issued by a federally recognized tribal nation or Indian tribe, and United States Merchant Mariner Credentials,” the other (and perhaps more controversial) focus of the bill includes denoting a citizen’s status on their driver’s license.

The bill text reads:

“Licenses issued to individuals who submitted any of the documents required pursuant to s.322.08 (2) (c)5., 7., or 8. must include ‘NC’ to denote that such individual is a noncitizen.”

For those who are citizens and are concerned that they’ll have to renew their driver’s license, SB 1168 also states that “The following forms of identification are considered current and valid if they contain the name and photograph of the applicant and have not expired:

  • United States passport or passport card.
  • Debit or credit card.
  • Military identification.
  • Student identification.

As well as a multitude of other forms of identification.

SB 1168 has a companion in H 1101 which was introduced by State Representative Lauren Melo (R-FL).

State Sen. Gruters is no stranger to controversy, however.

In June, Gruters (R-FL) has recently claimed Gov. DeSantis intentionally vetoed several Sarasota County projects because he endorsed former President Donald Trump (R) for his White House bid.

"The Governor is clearly upset I endorsed Donald Trump for President, and so he took it out on the people of Sarasota County," said Sen. Gruters.

He believes that Gov. DeSantis removed efforts to rebuild Midnight Pass, relocate a fire station, and widen Fruitville Road, as well as a list of other things through the line-item veto from the "Framework for Freedom” budget due to his endorsement of Trump.

"Simply because I support his political opponent, the governor chose to punish ordinary Floridians who want better water quality, less traffic congestion, and increased resources for disabled children to find gainful employment. It's mean-spirited acts like this that are defining him here and across the country," Gruters concluded.

This is a developing story.

President Donald Trump (R) is looking to aggressively compete in Democrat strongholds like New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Minnesota, and New Mexico. President Trump is leading his Republican challengers by a wide margin, and with two weeks to go until the Iowa caucus, he is confident that he will emerge as the 2024 Republican nominee when the smoke clears.

With efforts to remove him from ballots, President Trump does not appear to show signs of worry. In fact, he is doubling down by affirming that his campaign will launch more aggressive efforts of campaigning in stats that Republicans have not historically won in.  President Trump noted that he wants to do rallies in said states, and he event floated the idea of renting out Madison Square Garden to host a rally for supporters.

President Trump commented this week that “one of the other things I’m going to do – and I may be foolish in doing it – is I’m going to make a heavy play for New York, heavy play for New Jersey, heavy play for Virginia, heavy play for New Mexico, and a heavy play for a state that hasn’t been won in years, Minnesota.”

“I’m going to do rallies, I’m going to do speeches, I’m going to work them. That doesn’t mean I’m going to work them as hard as I work Pennsylvania, where I’m doing very well,” President Trump continued.

Calling President Joe Biden (D) “Mr. Scranton,” President Trump said he feels confident that President Biden won’t beat him in this Keystone State in 2024.

National Polls show that President Trump has overtaken President Biden, and the lead appears to be growing. However, President Trump is facing the threat of being removed from ballots across the country. Maine has already decided to remove him, and though calls were growing in California for him to be removed, the decision has been made to keep him.

As 2024 Republican primary candidates scramble to take down former President Donald Trump (R), the road ahead just got a lot steeper as US Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) has just endorsed the former president's campaign.

Scalise is currently the House Majority Leader for Republicans and was a favorite to replace US Rep. Kevin McCarthy after being ousted as Speaker of the House.  Scalise was initially hesitant on who to support in 2024 but solidified his choice in Donald Trump today.

"When Donald Trump was President, American workers and families were thriving.  The economy was strong and interest rates were low — grocery costs were affordable, and families could afford to buy a house and provide for their children," Scalise continued. "The border was secure and crime was down. America had secure energy policies, keeping gas and utility prices low," stated Scalise.

Scalise also got his digs in on President Biden (D), "[Biden] has driven our country into chaos with skyrocketing costs, and hardworking taxpayers are the ones paying the price," and that under his administration, "gas prices more than doubled, housing affordability reached all-time lows, mortgage rates doubled, inflation hit the highest level in 40 years, and interest rates are at the highest level in 22 years."

The Louisiana Congressman certainly feels the moment is right for Trump, as he stated Americans need "a strong leader to fix the problems Joe Biden has created and — with rising aggression from adversaries abroad — deter foreign actors who wish to harm us," noting the "over 6.2 million encounters at the southern border" and the "1.7 million known gotaways" coming and being arrested from "hundreds of countries," not just Latin America.

President Joe Biden (D) and his challenger, former President Donald Trump (R) exchanged jabs with each other on New Year's Eve through their respective celebrations.

President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden spent the New Year at St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands.  In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, the host of this year's Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin Eve show, Biden seemed confident about the upcoming election and bragged about his accomplishments, "[the American people] understand that we’re in a better position than any country in the world to lead the world. We’re coming back, and it’s about time."

Biden went on to talk about job numbers claiming, "People are in a position to be able to making a living now, and they’ve created a lot of jobs for over 14 million."

Trump made his New Year's statement in typical Trump fashion by taking to Truth Social.  Surprisingly, Trump wished Biden a happy new year, "As the New Year fast approaches, I would like to wish an early New Year’s salutation to Crooked Joe Biden and his group of Radical Left Misfits & Thugs on their never ending attempt to DESTROY OUR NATION through Lawfare, Invasion, and Rigging Elections," stated Trump.

Although both sides have put on a confident front about their odds in this year's election, the polls tell a radically different story.  Polling averages compiled by FiveThirtyEight reflect that only 39% of Americans approve of Biden’s performance, with 55% disapproving – this number has doubled in the past year.

Trump on the other hand faces legal challenges through his arrests that he is still fighting from 2023, and the subsequent attempts to remove him from primary ballots across the nation.
